About
You could say I’m late to adventure, compared to some. Other things always seemed to get in the way. Minor trips and travels have been a constant in adulthood, yet for me adventure wasn’t a way of life until I moved with my family to north-east Victoria, mostly to be closer to the mountains. The frequency of time I spent outside increased significantly, and more recently it’s been the mental good vibes that come from planning and doing something risky somewhere new that have floated my boat. Adventure takes me back to school walking trips and camps and the sense of freedom that I experienced—but probably never truly appreciated—in childhood, exploring the local woods, playing with friends outside, being active, taking chances.
For me adventuring stimulates and improves my health, and shared adventuring takes it even further.
If I’m late to adventuring, I’m even later to writing and photographer-ing. Ironically it’s been the cosmological growth of the completely non-outdoors internet that’s spurred me towards putting the (symbolic) pen to paper and (actual) eye to viewfinder on a more regular basis. I enjoy the challenge of capturing an experience and recounting it so that others enjoy reading or watching it and might be inspired to go adventuring themselves. Blogs might seem very 2008 but they are still relevant in 2025, and if nothing else they provide folks like me with a simple way to showcase our wares. I shoot the occasional video too. There’s still a place for analogue though, which is why I’m putting together a book. More to come on that another time.
